Covington Dock and Boathouse Case Study

A custom dock and boathouse designed to bring a family’s dreams to life on the Tchefuncte River — and make the most of every day on the water.

Client Background & Project Goals

The Tucker family, residents of a neighborhood on the Tchefuncte river in Covington, LA, came to Lamulle Construction with a clear vision: to turn their riverside lot into a space where they could relax, fish, kayak, and enjoy time together.

With direct access to the scenic Tchefuncte River, they wanted a new dock and boathouse with a lift system that made using their boat easy while adding value and beauty to their property.

Overcoming Waterfront Hurdles

Like many waterfront projects, this one came with a few obstacles. The property had an old, crumbling boathouse—complete with an abandoned boat—and no land access, meaning all demo and early construction had to happen from a barge.

Additionally, since the Tchefuncte River is part of Louisiana’s protected Scenic Rivers system, additional permitting and environmental regulations had to be navigated before work could begin.

Collaborative Design Process

The Lamulle team began by meeting the Tucker family on-site to understand their needs and vision. After reviewing the type of boat they were purchasing and how they planned to use the space, we sketched out a custom design.

Throughout the process, they contributed thoughtful ideas—like a sandy beach area and a longer walkway—which we incorporated with ease. The final plan balanced function, style, and future family use.

Construction & Innovation

The build happened in two main phases: first, we used a barge to remove the old structure and drive piles; then, we transitioned to land-based construction.

We used flow-through fiberglass decking—strong, long-lasting, and ideal for handling the river’s natural fluctuations.

The remote-controlled boat lift added a tech-forward touch, offering extra convenience for day-to-day use. It was one of the first builds of its kind in the area.

Environmental Compliance

Our team managed the entire permitting process, including securing a Scenic Rivers Permit from the state—a step we’re very familiar with.

We followed all environmental guidelines closely, ensuring the dock and boathouse would meet standards and preserve the natural beauty of the riverfront.

Results & Impact

The end result? A stunning riverfront setup that delivered everything the Tucker family wanted. The dock is perfect for fishing, relaxing, and launching kayaks. The boat lift makes heading out on the river or Lake Pontchartrain a breeze.

It’s a durable, low-maintenance build that transformed the property and created a go-to space for making memories on the water.
